Insider Trading: As the guest pointed out today, it’s not enough to just keep oneself clean and away from the line. As corporate executive, one bears the responsibility to build up an infrastructure to protect employees and shareholders. Employees should have a channel to direct their concerns or uncertainties to an advisory board so that they will have full confidence that they are acting within boundaries of regulations and law.
On one side, equity research analyst holds fiduciary duty to the investors in the fund that he/she will conduct thorough research in order to get an investing edge and bring value to the investors. On the other side, he/she must conduct the research within the fine line of very effective research versus insider trading. And I think this falls on the point that hopefully the firm will have the infrastructure in place to provide guidance.
